Here Thomas Brooks, managing director of Paradise View Lodge Health Retreat and Spa, Waipu, New Zealand, blogs on his modern, purpose built New Zealand Lodge and how And So To Bed has helped him create the ultimate R and R experience for his guests.
“Arriving fresh off the jet in Auckland, we wanted to live the New Zealand dream and run a lodge in a spectacular part of the country – which isn’t too difficult with the thousands of miles of unspoilt coastline and inland areas of great beauty. Faced initially with the choice of south or north – to a warmer climate – we chose north.
We found the perfect site here in Waipu, over-looking the 23 miles of sweeping golden beach at Bream Bay and its volcanic headland and called the lodge Paradise View after the first Scottish settlers who felt that they had arrived in Paradise (so had we).
The lodge is situated well off the beaten track and in this peaceful spot the wildlife can be fully appreciated, particularly the tuis and their acrobatic fan tails and the colourful tozella parrots that visit the garden. This is capped off nicely with the clear night sky – the stars are dazzling as we’re well away from light pollution.
Now, with a background in fashion photography the style and comfort of the rooms in the lodge was always going to be very close to my heart. Further to this, having long been a fan of the And So To Bed brand it seemed a natural choice for me to theme the rooms around their ranges. I find the luxury of the products soothing and very spoiling, which is exactly the experience we wanted to offer our visitors.
Our visitors adore the furnishings and on completion of the interiors of the lodge it seems there are very few places like it in New Zealand, with most lodges and hotels offering a more modern finish. I think guests enjoy the variety we offer, especially New Zealanders who have enjoyed their relaxing short breaks away from the pressure of the cities. Several of our guests have also been keen to purchase their own furniture from And So To Bed.
Whilst staying with us, guests can be quite active with access to our excellent gym facilities (with the option of a personal trainer), exhilarating local walks and jet skiing on the bay with abundant fishing options, whales and dolphins to see, but most visitors are simply looking for a complete relax and recharge experience with our late breakfasts, pool and spa and massage and beauty therapy.
Add to this the strong architectural features of the And So To Bed beds, soft joyous colours and romantic fabrics and you can see how we have managed to provide a luxurious space for our guests to relax.
And So To Bed…
