Care

CARE FOR YOUR LINEN

Reed Family Linen's bed linens are made from the finest fabrics and finished to the highest possible standard and in order to retain this quality for many years, it is important to follow these simple instructions:

Washing

  • Machine washable at 40°C

Always read and follow the washing instructions on the care label stitched into all of their bed linen. Separate white, light and dark items. Avoid washing powders that contain optical brighteners; these can cause colours to fade and become patchy over time. Beauty products have a detrimental affect on your linens as they contain bleaching agents and can cause permanent colour loss. Never wash at a higher temperature than recommended as this can cause the overall fabric to permanently shrink and lose its surface quality.

Drying & Ironing

All of Reed Family Linen's bed linen can be tumble dried on a cool setting, but it is important to remove them as soon as the programme has finished to minimise creasing. Ironing the bed linen with a steam iron while slightly damp will produce the crispest finish. Embroidered items should be turned inside out to iron as this will raise the embroidery and lessen the chance of catching the stitching.

Fabric Weave Options

Percale or Sateen?

The terms Percale and Sateen refer to different types of weave and construction of sheeting fabrics and the easiest way to understand the difference is by comparing the two:

Percale is crisp, cool, and breathable. Woven in a one-over-one-under pattern, it has a matte finish and a lightweight feel, making it ideal for warmer sleepers or summer nights.

Sateen is smooth, silky and slightly warmer than a percale weave. Woven with more threads on the surface (usually three-over-one-under), it has a soft sheen and a gentler drape, perfect if you prefer a slightly heavier, more luxurious feel.

Once both cloths are woven, finished and sewn into bed linen, each will have the same thread count and the same weight, but the finish and surface handle of each fabric will be different because of the distinct constructions.
