Precious Metals

Precious Metals
On the cusp of a new season, we are fortified with touches of luxury design that reflect our obsession with all things shiny. Bold as brass and silver-tongued, we’re ready to walk you through a new collection with a nod to a revival in sleek, metallic glamour which suits us just fine. Some tips too on metal accessories to add to the melting pot. Think nickel, bronze, brass, gold, copper, steel, iron – spun, forged, leafed, gilded, polished, brushed, burnished even. If you’re on the hunt for some glint and glimmer and high end luxury interiors inspiration, glide on in. Modern metallic Some covet cool, bright industrial spaces, laced with nickel or brass. Our current take on more-ish metals is to edge the deep comfort of softly padded upholstery in dark velvets, with high luxury polished nickel and brushed brass. A magnificent metal four poster, The Hoxton, personifies this feel, realising the dream of creating a five star hotel bedroom suite in the home. Low-lighting from metal-finished bedside lights such as our brass-finished Aladdin Lamp animates the soothing glow of polished metals. Retreat from the world and regain a sense of calm and order with the aid of so-soft sleep wear and crisp linen. Accessories can come and go. It’s always good to choose key items carefully. The Pimlico bed is a masterpiece in modern metallic design. Oblique angled edges of polished nickel or brushed brass catch the daylight or lamp light with a confident sashay of cinematic glam. Comfort is here too. Fourteen hues of Italian velvet transform the padded panels. We adore this juxtaposition of clean metallic edges and the softest of luxury fabrics. Anke Drechsel’s richly encrusted, embroidered gold cushions can be layered with plain velvet. Patterned fabrics featuring metallic motifs can also work well such as Dedar’s reverse jacquard Dalie Papaverie Tulipani design seen as cushions on the Pimlico and the intricate gold embroidery of Dedar’s jacquard Silkbird fabric, dressing the Kensington Armchair in the green scheme. This electric design is sculpture and lamp in one, a true showpiece and we just love that the naturally gnarled branching base comes in gold leaf, bronze-dipped and brass-dipped finishes. The team at super stately venue Aynhoe Park (the Jacobean bricks and mortar end of A Modern Grand Tour) has kindly released a flock of these feathered floor lamps to feature in our showroom windows this Autumn/Winter. See if you can spot one on your travels. Ornate, grand showstoppers are second nature at And So To Bed. For hand-carved, gilded perfection, we are drawn to a collection of divinely crafted mirrors. Finished in gold or silver leaf, these are set off beautifully on moody, dark walls. They sit so well in period rooms and can be as at home with simple brass beds as they are with more grand pieces. Talking of which, we can’t touch on metallics without a glance at a new brass bed design – the Bronte. Cloaked in many moods, lovely in lacquered steel with brass finials and connectors or painted white with the same detailing. We also have a black painted version and, as ever are very happy to discuss bespoke colours and finishes. True of Fromental’s bucolic chinoiserie scene for And So To Bed’s AW16 photoshoot. Full of romance and echoes of the East.
